I have the idea of a book… more closely contained images, a narrative if I want and portability. I am going to let the idea evolve here. I have made some progress learning the Japanese method of book making. I love the appearance of the Awagami papers and they have an astounding tonal range no matter how thin the paper is. I may or may not go that route. I chose the images from several years work in Adobe Bridge and placed them in InDesign as PSD files so that they are editable throughout the development of the book. From InDesign I can go to a PDF for high quality inkjet, to self-publishing companies for on-demand printing or to offset, though I doubt that. I might hand make a set number of books if there is any interest, as an edition, numbered, limited to 50 or so,
I’m choosing an unusual size at this point in the process, 20 inches by 10 inches. I’m only concentrating on the reader’s experience, not what the industry standard might be. The approach is totally eclectic for the range of subject matter I’m choosing. There are bleeds on every page and close alignment of the images. For years I’ve resisted having images too close to one another but I’m beginning to think that if I choose properly it’s less of a concern than I thought.
